Project Description
The Penn Avenue Signals Improvement Project aims to improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability for all users of Penn Avenue in the Strip District.
The project includes the following upgrades to Penn Avenue between 32nd and 17th Streets:
- New vehicular signal heads
- New pedestrian signal heads
- Accessible pedestrian signal devices
- Shortened crossings
- Daylighting intersections
- Traffic calming and pedestrian safety enhancements.
Strip District Mobility Plan
With only four streets making the connection through the Strip District (Liberty Avenue, Penn Avenue, Smallman Street, and Railroad Street) they must work and coordinate as a system. Together, these streets make a complete network for Pittsburgh by accommodating vehicle traffic at slow speeds, providing access to transit, accommodating bicyclists, and enhancing access for pedestrians to safely visit Strip District businesses.
