WHAT ARE THE SDGs and VLR?

The SDGs are Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN as a worldwide plan to end extreme poverty, reduce inequalities, and combat climate change by 2030.

The City of Pittsburgh has committed to these goals and is currently in the process of developing a Voluntary Local Review (VLR), a framework that will analyze how closely the city aligns to these goals. The City published a VLR in 2020 to understand an overview of all city initiatives and activities related to the SDGs. You can find the 2020 VLR on the side under "LINKS."

This year, the City is publishing a new VLR focused on city buying. The allocation of government funds and contracts is an important part of sustainability. Investing in environmentally-sustainable or socially-impactful commodities, professional services, or construction contracts contributes to the SDGs.

OKAY, BUT WHAT EXACTLY ARE THE SDGs?

Here is a list of all the Sustainable Development Goals!
