Crossing Guard Appreciation Day is a day devoted to showcasing and saying thank you to those who help students cross the street on their way to and from school. The City of Pittsburgh's Safe Routes to School program celebrates Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on the second Wednesday in February.

Crossing Guard Bobbi Valentine was joined at her post by Mayor O'Connor, Safe Routes to School Coordinator Harriet Jackson, Crossing Guard Supervisor Donna McManus, Director of Public Safety Sheldon Williams and Concord Principal Jamie Kinzel-Nath for Crossing Guard Appreciation Day. Ms. Valentine has been a crossing guard for the City of Pittsburgh for 38 years. Pittsburgh Concord students showered her with a thank you banner and flowers.
