Project Description

This project includes the complete replacement of the traffic signal at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Morewood Avenue in the City of Pittsburgh's Shadyside/Squirrel Hill neighborhoods. The project is a collaborative project between DOMI and Carnegie Mellon University and primarily funded through the 2024 City of Pittsburgh capital budget (20%) and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Municipal Signal Partnership Program, also known as “Green-Light-Go” (80%). CMU contributed the design funds and will be making pedestrian improvements in front of Mudge House. This project includes:

  • New powder-coated mast arm poles
  • Pedestrian countdown signals
  • Accessible pedestrian signals
  • Leading pedestrian intervals
  • 12" LED vehicular signal heads with backplates
  • Miovision camera detection
  • Updated pavement markings, and
  • LED streetlighting
