Rhine St. Follow-Up

15 October 2025

Around 12:15 pm on September 22nd, 2025, a pedestrian ran after a Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT) bus while it was pulling away from the bus stop on Rhine Street. The pedestrian then into the sign post, fell into the road, and she was hit by the bus. The pedestrian died from her injuries after being struck.

Our Vision Zero Fatal Crash Response Team, which includes the Pittsburgh Police Collision Investigation Unit, has completed a site visit at Rhine Street.

Below are the Team's action items:

  • Working with PRT on a communications plan to educate bus riders on the dangers of chasing the bus.
  • Reinstalling the stop sign so that it is above the bus stop sign for visibility.
