About this Project

The City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Mobility and Infrastructure (DOMI) is planning to install traffic calming measures along the Chartiers Avenue corridor, from Windgap Avenue to Middletown Road.

There are many points of interest along this stretch, including the Chartiers Early Childhood Center, Chartiers Playground (including a football field) that draw people to the area.

Planned Improvements (Descriptions)

The measures to improve safety at along Chartiers Avenue will be as follows, from west (Windgap Avenue) to east (ending at Middletown Road):

Merle Street:

  • Pedestrian crossing improvements will be made, including a crosswalk with bump outs (painted lines that visually narrow the driving lanes, slowing car traffic).

Along the corridor between Warfle Streets and Suter Street:

  • Speed tables will be added. These raised additions will slow cars down.

Suter Street:

  • Pedestrian crossing improvements will be made, including a refuge island with flex posts installed.

Along the corridor between Suter Street and Middletown Road:

  • Speed tables will be added. These raised additions will slow cars down.

Middletown Road:
