Join the Youth Working Group!

13 January 2025

The Pittsburgh Comprehensive Plan (“the Comp Plan”) will outline a plan for the City’s future. The City of Pittsburgh is looking for 9 young people to join a Youth Working Group (“YWG”). The YWG will help shape the future of the Comp Plan by making sure young people's voices are heard during this two-year process. You'll join other youth in a series of meetings to learn, share ideas, and make real changes in your community.

Your Role & Goals

  • Building Your Knowledge
    • Learn about community planning through hands-on meetings and workshops
    • Develop skills to turn your ideas into real solutions for your community
    • Work with experts to understand how cities grow and change
  • Spreading the Word
    • Be a leader who connects other young people to this important work
    • Help organize and run events that get youth excited about community planning
    • Work with creative teams (1Hood and Sasaki) to develop the look and message of our plan that speaks to young people
  • Shaping the Future
    • Give feedback on plans and projects from a young person's perspective
    • Help create a framework that makes sure changes are fair for everyone
    • Make sure we're really listening to what young people want and need for their community

This is part of the Comp Plan process - the big picture plan for our community's future. Since young people will live with these decisions the longest, your voice matters!

Payment & Time Commitment

You will receive a stipend of $5,000 to participate in this effort over 18 months. Your support will be needed between March 2025-June 2026 to inform this process.

We anticipate an average monthly commitment of 5 hours. Our hope is to choose 9 young people representing multiple regions in the city between the ages of 14-26.

Applications will be accepted until February 15, 2025. Interviews will take place after we narrow down a selection of applicants.
