Melwood Ave is a City street with parking on both sides located in Polish Hill and North Oakland. Facilities along the connector, which spans both residential and business areas, will serve cyclists and improve safety for all road users. Improvements on Melwood Ave will connect existing facilities on Bayard Street to Oakland and Shadyside, and the Gold Way Neighborway to Polish Hill. From Bayard Street to Centre Avenue, Melwood Avenue is a one-way. Here a contra-flow bike lane will be installed to permit bike travel bi-directionally, while maintaining one-way traffic for motor vehicles in a shared-lane condition. All existing legal parking will be maintained. On the block of Melwood between Baum and Centre, speed humps will help to calm traffic for a safer shared condition with multi-modal users.
