Initiative Overview

In response to the 2023 Certified Local Government Evaluation of Pittsburgh's Historic Preservation program by Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC), City Planning is revising documents and processes.

Title 11 of the Pittsburgh Code of Ordinances, the Historic Preservation Ordinance, was adopted in 1979, and has not had a significant update in many years. The Ordinance will be updated based industry best practices and on feedback gathered via an online survey sent to staff, preservation organizations, commissioners, residents, and design professionals.
