Overview

Herron Avenue, which bisects the Polish Hill neighborhood, is also a primary crossing location for pedestrians who traverse the neighborhood. The existing pedestrian crossing along this road at the Melwood intersection is targeted for safety improvements due to lack of yielding compliance and speeding drivers.

Planned Improvements

With the goal of improving yielding compliance and reducing overall driver's speed, one speed table is planned uphill from the crosswalk location. A raised crosswalk was investigated but due to the proximity of curb cuts and adjacent streets was not feasible. Speed tables are constructed in a similar manner and with placement near the crossing will provide safety benefits.

Signage and pavement markings for the speed table will also be installed. The crosswalk along Melwood at Herron will also be upgraded to hi-visibility piano keys.
