Project Description

RAISE is a discretionary program administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). The RAISE program focuses on promoting investment in neighborhoods that have historically suffered from racial policies (such as redlining) that prevented residents from attaining wealth.

On August 11, 2022, the Biden-Harris Administration announced the recipients of the highly competitive grant. Of the 166 awardees, the City of Pittsburgh was included in this group.

The New Pathways project will implement several safety improvements articulated in community-led plans for the Hill District.

These improvements include:

  • Pedestrian accessibility and crossing improvements
  • Restoration of city steps
  • Smart signal infrastructure for enhanced and reliable transit service and connectivity
  • Intersection redesign
  • Streetscape improvements on the Centre Avenue corridor
