Project Updates - February 2026
Following the October 2024 closure of the bridge, the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure has been working closely with bridge inspectors and design engineers to develop comprehensive repair plans for the Panther Hollow Bridge.
The City hired contractor is planning to mobilize the week of February 16th, 2026, to begin the preparation work for repairs to Panther Hollow Bridge.
Construction is anticipated to go through August 2026, with a short opening for the Pittsburgh Grand Prix in July. A public pedestrian access path will be maintained during construction. Temporary containment will be installed around the bridge. This containment will remain in place for duration of construction to provide a work platform and required environmental protection. Bridge repairs will ultimately allow the bridge to be fully reopened to vehicle traffic in late summer 2026.
Project Overview
The City of Pittsburgh is advancing the Panther Hollow Bridge Rehabilitation project. The bridge has been closed since October 2024 after preliminary inspection findings indicated safety concerns. Panther Hollow Bridge is a key connection between Oakland and the recreational amenities of Schenley Park and the surrounding East End neighborhoods. This project aims to restore this connection and ensure safe access for all users of the bridge.
At this time, we do not anticipate any long-term disruptions to the various Panther Hollow Trails below the bridge.
