Project Description

The City of Pittsburgh, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), is advancing the West Carson Street bridge rehabilitation project. The project is currently in the Preliminary Engineering phase.

The project begins with analysis and design to determine what various bridge enhancements are needed. In addition, care is given to reduce pain-points for those who use the bridge, i.e. how to minimize detours. While engineering will take several years, we aim to provide updates on the progress at various points throughout design. Your patience is appreciated as the design team kicks-off the project and gathers data. Opportunities for public comment on the proposed plans will occur during engineering design.

Community Engagement

On August 6, 2025, the Department of Mobility & Infrastructure (DOMI) alongside the project partners and consultants held a public meeting to share information information on the West Carson St. Bridge Rehabilitation Project. This meeting also provided neighbors and community members to ask questions and provide feedback for our teams.

You can find the presentation slides in the "Document Library" or find a recording of the meeting below.

If you have questions or input to provide on the project, please complete the public feedback form.
