September 2024 - Meeting Recording

23 September 2024

On Wednesday September 11th, the City of Pittsburgh held a community meeting about the West End Trolley Trail. The meeting was held at First United Presbyterian Church of Crafton Heights.

DOMI and Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith have been working with community groups in Crafton Heights, Ridgemont, Westwood, and West End to ensure this public asset meets the vision of these neighborhoods.

This off-road shared-use path, once complete, will increase connectivity between West End neighborhoods, Downtown, and the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. It will also create more safe modes of transportation for non-motor users, which remains a priority of the City in its commitment to achieving Vision Zero: reducing traffic crashes and fatalities in Pittsburgh.

During the meeting, residents shared questions and concerns about unhoused people using the trail, ongoing trail maintenance and safety.

Currently the final design of the project is anticipated to be complete this fall, and an advertisement for the project to bid will go out this winter. Assuming there are no delays, construction could start as early as spring of next year.
