This new mural will be located under and around the water features at a new spray park at Chartiers Playground. For this all-ages community space, residents and users of the park have requested an artwork that is responsive to the context of the neighborhood and promotes playfulness and interaction. This mural is scheduled for installation in spring 2024.

Suphitsara Buttra (Pittsburgh, PA)

Suphitsara Buttra is a spontaneous realism artist who specializes in portraiture with acrylic paint. As a mural artist, she creates pieces that reflect on people within their communities and in society. She looks forward to creating an inspiring, fun, and playful composition for Chartiers Spray Park.

Suphitsara held a public meeting on Sunday, September 4, 2022 to discuss the history of the park with community representatives and engage local youth in a drawing session to inspire ideas for the public art project. Some of the vibrant and expressive drawings made during that workshop are shown here:

Using the youth drawings as inspiration, Suphitsara created a bright and playful design concept to activate the spray pad! Her design was approved at a Public Art & Civic Design hearing on July 26, 2023.
