The Percent For Art Program

The Percent For Art program was adopted by Pittsburgh city ordinance in 1977. This legislation dedicated 1% of municipal construction or major renovation budgets to the inclusion of public art. Although this funding allocation was overlooked for periods of time, in recent years this program has resulted in many new works of public art on city property, most commonly in public parks.

Recent Updates to Percent For Art

More recently, changes to the city code have allowed for future use of these funds to be distributed more equitably around city neighborhoods and to provide for higher-budget and more impactful projects.

The City Code governing the Percent for Art can be found here.
